Why Many Texas Homeowners Choose Ruud

A lot of folks choose Ruud because they want something reliable that doesn’t break the bank. Ruud systems have been around a long time, and they consistently hold up well in long cooling seasons like ours. You’ll usually see three main product lines:

Achiever Series

This is the budget-friendly lineup. These models meet current federal efficiency standards and focus on doing the basics well — nothing too fancy, just dependable cooling at a fair price. Good for smaller homes or tighter budgets.

Achiever Plus Series

This middle tier adds quieter operation, better efficiency, and compatibility with modern smart thermostats. For homes that run the AC constantly during summer, this series often hits the “best value” sweet spot.

Ultra Series (UA20)

This is Ruud’s premium variable-speed system. It adjusts output smoothly rather than constantly starting and stopping, which keeps humidity and temperature steadier. If you want top comfort and the lowest long-term energy use, this is the one people usually look at.

Across the lineup, Ruud focuses on reliability, easy-to-service components, and systems that handle long, hot summers without drama.

Energy Efficiency and SEER2 Ratings

One of the biggest reasons Ruud scores well is energy efficiency. Their systems range from about 14.3 SEER2 up to 20.5 SEER2. In simple terms, the higher the SEER2 rating, the less electricity your AC uses for the same cooling.

Lower energy bills

Better humidity control

More consistent temperatures

Potential rebate eligibility

Here in Texas, where AC units run nearly nonstop in summer, those savings add up fast. A higher-efficiency Ruud can easily pay for itself over time.

Warranty and Reliability

Ruud includes a 10-year parts warranty on central AC units, and many models qualify for an optional 10-year conditional replacement warranty — meaning the entire outdoor unit may be replaced if the compressor fails during the coverage period.

Their systems are also designed for easier service access, which helps reduce labor time during repairs or maintenance.

And like any AC system, yearly tune-ups go a long way. When properly installed and maintained, many Ruud systems outlast their expected service life — even in tough climates.

How Ruud Compares to Other AC Brands

Compared to Premium Brands

Ruud offers similar reliability and efficiency at a lower price point. Premium brands sometimes win on ultra-quiet operation or advanced features, but real‑world cooling performance is often very comparable.

Compared to Budget Brands

Ruud usually wins on build quality, warranty strength, and lifespan — so it’s a step up without jumping to luxury‑pricing.

Compared to Other Mid‑Range Brands

Ruud is often considered one of the strongest ‘value’ options because it balances performance, cost, and long‑term ownership expenses.

Factors That Affect Whether a Ruud AC Is Right for You

1. Home Size and Layout

Bigger homes or multi‑story layouts benefit most from higher‑efficiency or variable‑speed systems.

2. Insulation and Ductwork

Even a great AC struggles if the ductwork leaks or the attic insulation is poor.

3. Local Climate

Texas heat and humidity demand durable components and steady airflow — areas where Ruud performs well.

4. Budget vs Long‑Term Costs

Some homeowners choose the lower upfront cost. Others look at lifetime efficiency savings. Ruud gives you options for both.

5. Installation Quality

Installation quality matters more than brand alone. A properly installed Ruud often outperforms a poorly installed premium system.

Step‑By‑Step Guide to Choosing the Right Ruud AC

Schedule a professional home evaluation

Compare SEER2 efficiency options

Choose between single‑stage, two‑stage, or variable‑speed

Review long‑term operating costs

Register the warranty for full coverage

Have the system installed by a licensed technician

FAQs

How long do Ruud air conditioners last in Texas?

Most Ruud systems last 12–17 years in Texas, depending on usage, installation quality, and maintenance. Homes that run the AC constantly may see wear sooner, but yearly tune‑ups help extend lifespan. Systems with quality installation usually perform more reliably over time.

Is Ruud considered a good brand?

Are Ruud air conditioners expensive to repair?

Repairs on Ruud systems are generally affordable compared to higher‑end brands. Parts availability is good, and many components are designed for easier service access. Routine maintenance also helps prevent costly breakdowns.

Which Ruud model is the most efficient?

The Ruud Ultra Series UA20 is the most efficient model in the lineup. It uses variable‑speed technology to manage temperature and humidity more precisely. This model is ideal for homeowners who want maximum comfort and the biggest reduction in power bills.

Had a leak called John Moore they temporarily fixed leak until they could come back 2 weeks later to repipe entire house. They did a horrible job. They did not place anything down when they cut the Sheetrock, got debris all over house and belongings like dishes, beds and toothbrushes. They did not inform or tell me where they were going to be cutting just cut. Cut thru cabinets destroying them. They put several holes in walls and ceilings where no pipes are located. They broke a light in attic and ac unit. Was without ac for 5 days do to this. They hooked up washing machine water connections incorrectly. Left dirty wet towels hidden in bathroom drawers and trash in piles in closets where they did no work. They left metal pieces and screws all over floors, did not clean up anything. When I called to complain and speak with someone was given to customer care and have yet to hear from them. I call and call they just take a message and never return calls. They scheduled appointment supposedly with city inspector waited all day no one showed only for John Moore to say they scheduled it for the a different day, waited again no inspector again called city and was told John Moore never set up appointment for them to come out. This company is the worst they will do a horrible job and will not return calls. For the price of services it’s not worth it. Do not recommend please find a better plumber do not use them.

Jedd Johnson was my technician, he came to my house for a Tesla wall connector installation. He was on time, polite, professional, and gave me a very competitive flat rate! I would definitely recommend him and his company to anyone who wants to install an EV charger:)
Let me tell you, John Moore has a gem of an employee with Andrew Estrada. He is professional. He is punctual. Attentive to my calls and texts and communicates clearly. He was very knowledgeable about the 1979 Federal Pacific breaker box set up at my mom's place that needed total replacement. The first few minutes at the breaker box with him on a Monday (1/2/2023), I knew he was the right technician for the job. He didn't rush me into making a rash decision. He is a good listener. He explains things very clearly. Answered all my questions with confidence. Guided me through the repair process when CenterPoint needed to be involved. Completed the job by Wednesday (1/4/2023). If I ever have electrical needs at my own home, you better believe, I will ask for him.
We had Leonard Citizen from John Moore out today to help us with some electrical wiring issues inside and to diagnose a breaker for outside outlets that kept blowing. He was extremely professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. His work was top notch and the rates they charged were very reasonable for the work performed. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Dig up our backyard at 9:30am to fix the neighbor’s plumbing and it was a CLEAR UNDERSTANDING THAT the hole was to be closed TODAY AND at 2pm we drove to neighbors house and they had already left. We contacted John Moore and told them the hole needed to be closed up TODAY ITS 4pm and they have yet to return. Oh and they left the piece of pipe they repaired!
